Welcome to the Curran Index, a research project and database of articles in nineteenth-century periodicals which is named after its founder, Professor Eileen Curran. This index and website are sponsored by the Research Society for Victorian Periodicals.
Originally the Curran Index focused on additions and corrections to its precursor, the Wellesley Index to Victorian Periodicals. Indeed, as of September 2018 the Curran Index includes over 1,100 additions and corrections to the Wellesley, many of which can be found nowhere else. These entries are associated with prose in periodicals such as Bentley's Miscellany, Fraser's Magazine, the New Monthly Magazine, the Westminster Review, the Dublin University Magazine, the British & Foreign Review, the Foreign Quarterly Review, and other quarterlies and monthlies.
Now, with over 23,000 non-Wellesley article entries, the Curran Index has blossomed into an independent and comprehensive index covering periodicals and / or poems that were not covered by its predecessor.
