The Curran Index to Nineteenth-Century Periodicals
Welcome to the Curran Index, a constantly expanding storehouse of information about who was writing the articles, reviews, stories, novels, and poems that made up the world’s first industrialized press. As of December 2020, the Curran Index features over 168,000 contributions to influential 19th-century British weeklies, monthlies, quarterlies, and annuals.
The database is fully searchable. To search by Periodical and Title of Contribution, navigate to the Contributors tab. The Contributors tab can also be used to locate all the articles in the Curran Index by a particular author.
The Author Info tab gives more extensive information on the gender and nationality of particular contributors. You can also find out the time-frame and number of contributions by a particular author.
The Advanced Search tab enables you to search single or multiple periodical titles. You can search by author, article type, time period, and also by the gender and nationality of contributors.
