    Used pseudonym "Old Nicholas"; probably the James Hume who worked with Thackeray on the National Standard; barrister; emigrated to India in 1839; owned and edited the Calcutta Star; police magistrate of Calcutta; proprieter and editor of India Sporting Review; wrote Letters from an Idler (1842-1845).
